Earth Science Rocks When Students Can Really Experience It!
Help me give my students a lab with supplies needed for hands on Earth Science. Whether a stream table to teach erosion or rock/mineral sets and supplies, I would be so grateful.
I am in my second year teaching. I was a nurse for 20+ years and as a school nurse, really wanted more time with the kids. So I changed professions in the hopes of making a difference in the life of a child. I entered a classroom that had pretty limited lab supplies for hands on learning. I am using my own resources to engage the kids, but I would love to have some supplies to enhance their learning.
While the number of students is increasing in my school and the need is greater- funding has decreased.
How do I teach earth’s processes in labs with $100 in a year? At this point, I do it out of pocket.
The more I teach, the more I see the value of showing the science to my students. They light up, ask questions and make great observations! It’s so fun for them - but I serve in a school with great potential and great challenges. I feel like these kids deserve more opportunities to learn since most if not all of them are economically disadvantaged. Please help me provide them with supplies for hands on learning opportunities to help them grow a love for science and Earth’s processes!
Everyone should have the opportunity to see, touch and explore rocks, minerals, erosion, soil! Even my kids deserve to hold a read aloud book and read along with me as we explore water scarcity across the globe. How else will kids grow to appreciate the precious resources and processes at work all around us. From the atmosphere to the hydrosphere to the geosphere- Earth Science is amazing! Will you help me give my 6th graders experiences they will learn from and remember for a lifetime?
