My students need various learning tools for our unit over phases of the moon and the effects on our planet. The model orbiter and the 'Finding the Moon' learning kit will enrich my students' learning experience.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are passionate and excited children who have a desire to learn. However, they have many obstacles that stand in their way. Obstacles like hunger, poverty, addiction within the family, incarceration of loved ones, witnessing violence and more.
School is a place where the students can continue to be just kids, be surrounded by peers, and to be challenged academically.
On average, most of my students are below grade level in math, reading and science. Reading is the key to improving all subjects at school, and having the access to better reading resources would be a wonderful stepping stone to their reading success.
My Project
I am a new 6th grade teacher, and I learned that my school has little to no materials available for science. Items like the 'Finding the Moon' learning kit will give us a variety of ways to learn about the phases of the moon, gravitational pull, and its effects on our planet.
The model orbiter will give my 6th graders a hands-on visual representation of the moon's orbit.
The bulletin board diagrams, posters, and vocabulary posters will help my kids retain the information I am introducing to them. It will be a daily visual reminder of what we have learned.
