My Project

My students are those who have been diagnosed with severe cognitive disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Downs Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities and more. Within our unit we work with 30+ students who require hands on and engaging activities to assist in their learning. With Earth Day approaching we have been working on lessons about why the earth is important and the importance of taking care of our Earth. My goal for this year is to start a Earth Day annual celebration that honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earths natural resources for future generations. These materials can become very expensive and I have personally purchased a wide range of items but do not have the funds to purchase much more. Our students with disabilities also come from severely low income households, many of them living in hotels because of financial difficulty so the possibility of family donations is not likely. These materials would allow our 1st annual Earth Day Celebration to be hands on and interactive where the students will be able to individually prepare, grow and watch nature, it will give them something to take home with to their families and will foster a love for nature and our planet.
