My Project

Our Earth Project is to create a workspace for Upcycling center.

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products perceived to be of greater quality, such as artistic value and environmental value.

We are requesting materials to build a Upcycle Very Important Person Makerspace where students can creatively reduce, reuse, and recycle clothing. We are in need of materials to upcycle clothing items such as sewing material, patches, fabric, bedazzle tool and we have also requested some flex seating materials that can easily be used indoor and outside to complete our creative VIP Upcycle makerspace so students can work in Upcycle VIP Lounge or outdoors using materials found in nature.

Our goal is to build a student makespace that fosters student engagement and positive behaviors and provides an area to work on reusable, reduce, renew resources. Since our school is a Title I many students don't have new clothes and sometimes we provide gently used items. As an Earth Day and beyond project, we would like to create an Upcycle Very Important Person lounge space where students can make items new to them. It is our goal to lower the carbon footprint while building confidence and creativity.

It is our goal to improve the environment while working to improve our school culture and climate. My students come from lower socio-economic backgrounds, but what they lack in funding they make up for with heart!
