I have the privilege to work every day with a wide variety of students with different needs. Students that struggle behaviorally are becoming the new norm in schools. Students no longer fit into a neat little box. Therefore, we have to get creative in finding ways to help them feel like they belong. Some of my students require positive reinforcement or short term goals to help them make good choices and find success in the classroom. The materials included in this project such as the blank canvas, duct tape, and adhesive dots all go into making a visual behavior plan that excites and motivates my students.
When you allow students the opportunity to personalize and take part in making their own behavior plans they are more likely to push for their own success.
When they start to find success, they work for reward time. The other materials such as the fidgets, building blocks, and Play-doh all go into providing the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments. The fidgets are also a necessary tool in keeping them focused and regulated as they work towards their goals.
