This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am thrilled to be teaching math and science to my incredible sixth graders this year! These are my favorite subjects, and I just love this age group. My students are enthusiastic about learning new things and are full of energy!

Our school has a spectacular staff and incredible community support.

Even though we are located in a low socioeconomic area, it is clear that parents want the best for their children by their active involvement.

My students face many daily challenges, as many come from foster homes or might be experiencing homelessness; however, they always come to school with dazzling smiles, ready to have fun learning.

This is going to be an amazing school year because so much has changed. It was difficult to transition to distance learning as neither staff nor families were prepared. Now, we are ready and our students are eager to start learning online. It will look so much different, but I am confident that we will all do our very best.

My Project

We are a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school, where students are encouraged to make good choices with positive rewards. Typically, staff would be handing out "Bulldog Bucks" to students who are exemplifying respect, responsibility, and safety. They love earning this currency to spend in the school store. However, since we are distance learning, staff can not physically hand out bulldog bucks and students are not able to visit the store this school year.

I would really like to continue our positive behavior supports by doing daily gift card giveaways and giving students something to work for.

My super sixth graders are now aware of my expectations while we are distance learning at home. Many of them are doing such a marvelous job and are actually teaching me 'techy' things as well! However, because of normal household distractions, I see that some students struggle to arrive on time and stay for the entire class period on Zoom. I would love to increase consistent daily attendance and receive Goggle classroom assignments returned on time.

Students will earn gift cards based on positive behavior during math and science Zoom classes. This will motivate my kiddos to login on time for Zoom class periods and stay connected until I dismiss them. Since they will be present for lessons, this will increase their understanding of key concepts. In science, these topics include plate tectonics, Earth's structure, energy, weather, and the biosphere. In math, we will be working on long division, decimal division, prime factorization, and financial literacy. I am really excited to see this idea boost their grades!
