This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are recently immigrated Spanish speakers working toward a high school diploma. I would describe my students as resilient. They overcome and continue to face obstacles in pursuit an education and a better life. Some dont have support systems in the US, some are becoming parents, others are finding ways to provide for themselves while trying to pursue their academic goals. Through it all they remain positive, ready to learn. They have a stong sense of community and are generous and caring of one another.
My Project
These books will help my students become better test takers. It will help them sharpen the skills they need to master in order to pass the high school equivilance exam. The books are in their native language so that they do not have the additional obstacle of a language barrier to detract from their studies. We will use the books in class to guide the content we study. Each section of the book has practical practice questions designed to help them learn what is expected and how to choose the best response. I will combine my own content knowledge with the test taking strategy from the book to get my students ready to test!
