Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am privileged to be teaching a wonderful group of pre-k students. They have demonstrated an eagerness to learn and willingness to help others. They have come out of their little cocoons and want to be part of the classroom community and share what they know. More than half of my students are bilingual and I would like to create a more print rich environment as they develop their phonics awareness skills.

Some of my students want to become police officers and firefighters when they grow up because they want to help people.

Others don’t know what they want to be yet. Most of my students come from economically struggling families; they receive free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We have already learned about firefighters and police officers. Now, I would like them to explore more careers where they can also help people such as careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.

My Project

Like most young children, my pre-k students love to explore and figure out how things work. That is why I think it is a perfect time for them to start learning about science, what a scientist does, and start learning about possible careers for when they grow up.

To conduct some fun science experiments, my students would need to wear protective goggles.

They can learn about chemical reactions, absorption, even chromatography. They will learn things such as making a volcano erupt, making slime, making elephant toothpaste, making their own crystal, and discovering how many colors are used to create different marker inks.
