This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
The students at our school love coming to the school library. It would be great to have more early readers for students who are still learning how to read and practicing reading skills. This would help ensure that we have enough books in the library that everyone is able to read.
The students are a diverse group of thinkers and learners who come together in the spirit of learning at the school library.
We are a public, urban elementary school, and an IB World school. We are located in a historically diverse and low-income community, with a majority of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
I would like to add high-interest, engaging, early readers and early chapter books to help expand our library collection and promote a culture of literacy among our students. These books will be available to all students at the school from Pre-K through 5th grade, but cater more to students in Pre K-3rd grade since they are primarily early readers. The books in this project expand the options that students will have for independent choice reading. These books will help foster a love for reading for students when they come to the school library.
