I teach at a TK-8 school in the in Sanger, CA. My students have a passion for learning. They have a passion for STEM and integrating into math, literacy, science and social studies. The students use an interactive portfolio program called Seesaw to upload presentations, performance tasks and home school communication. TK helps lay foundation for success in later grades not only academically, but socially as well.
Tk is the bridge between preschool and kindergarten.
Our curriculum focuses on school readiness, social emotional skills, academics, fine and gross motor skills.
My Project
Early Literacy places a huge roll in Early Childhood Education. A key component of Early Literacy is retelling familiar stories. This is often done with Fairy Tales. The students love to read and act out Fairy Tales.
The STEM Fairy Tale kit not only allows the students to retell but to integrate STEM into Early Literacy.
The students will not only use the characters to retell but design and build the bridge in the Three Billy Goats Gruff. They will also have the opportunity to design and build the houses from the Three Little Pigs. For the technology component, the students will then use the interactive Seesaw App to video what they built and retell the story.
This project allows students the opportunity to learn through play. It is shown that if you use play to create new synapses in the brain it only takes 10-20 repetitions, rather than 400 repetitions. Integrating STEM and Early Literacy helps students make those connections in the brain and become confident in their early literacy skills.
