Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a new early childhood special education teacher. I teach 12 preschool students ages 3-4 years old. This is their first school experience, and many of them are learning how to self-regulate their emotions.
Sometimes they can experience challenging emotions, and having flexible seating for toddlers and books about regulating emotions in a calm area can provide a comfortable, safe, and calm space to sit and help my students learn emotional regulation.
Also, having headphones can help my students reduce sensitivity to noise and help them become self-aware of their feelings. In addition, having sensory mats and fidgets can help control behavior and more importantly allow them to feel okay with their big emotions in a safe, calming area before rejoining classroom learning.
