My Students
This is my fifth year of teaching sixth grade in a middle school in rural Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Two years ago, we were qualified to be a Title I school, resulting in money being tight for local families. My students are my world, and I want to provide a classroom environment that allows them to all succeed in the best way that they can. If this is not as attainable to some students compared to others, I want them to know that I will always support, love, and care for them throughout sixth grade and beyond.
Sixth grade can be a tough age for some students, and the relationships that I build with students can be strained and tattered at times.
At the end of the year, they are still kids who want your support and attention in some way or another, and this is always my main thought during a trying time. As I have learned, they are still wanting to tell you a story about what their cat did last night, but they also understand humor/sarcasm and can have higher expectations. They are truly a joy to have.
My Project
Because of COVID-19, our school has started the year off by adopting the hybrid model. This means that half of each classroom is home and the other half is in school each day to provide less students in the building and adhere to the proper social distancing guidelines.
Throughout the craziness and uncertainty this school year has brought us, my students lack earbuds to efficiently learn digitally.
That being said, each lesson is broadcasted through a video on Google Classroom, and students are expected to watch the lesson videos to learn the content each day. I teach in a rural community where money is tight, so most kids do not have the appropriate tools in order to learn digitally, such as earbuds.
This project will be able to provide a pair of earbuds for each student I currently have this school year. There are a handful of times each day I have a student ask me for an extra pair of earbuds to use, and I cannot provide them any. This little tool can be a huge difference in focus levels of students working at school or at home.
