Ear-Resistible Headphones

Help me give my students a class set of headphones so that they can better engage in active listening activities, rehearse independently, and evaluate their own performances

My Students

My students live in a low-income, high-poverty area in suburban St. Louis. We are a Title I school, and the majority of my students are only able to experience music performance experiences through the classes offered at our school.

My students arrive to class every day eager to experience how music can make the world a better place.

My students know that our music classroom is a safe space where they can engage in self-expression and share their love of music with others who love it, too! Students who are in choir find a family among their peers that allows them to have positive peer relationships and interactions.

We love to learn about and perform a variety of musical styles, and the students work hard to develop their music literacy so that they can become more independent as musicians. My students also engage in ongoing self- and peer-assessment so that they learn how to give and accept respectful, constructive feedback to become the best musicians they can be!

My Project

Currently students share headphones or just have to listen to music through speakers which limits sound clarity and accuracy with which they can listen. When multiple students are listening to music over speakers, it becomes challenging for them to focus on what they are listening to.

A class set of headphones will enable my students to more closely listen to, practice with, and analyze musical examples.

In music and choir, students will use these for independent listening activities so that they can experience and evaluate the quality of their own musical performances and other examples. In choir rehearsals, the headphones will also allow students the opportunity to practice independently or in small groups by using recordings.
