Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
YAY for a new and exciting California math framework for the 2025-26 school year! My partner teacher Mrs. Heather Davis and I, Ms. Tracy Hofmann, are so excited to start our students early on this new journey!! Math manipulatives and tools are a significant and integral part of the changes.
Using concrete materials in combination with other methods can enrich and deepen children's understanding of math concepts.
Concrete materials also help students learn new concepts and relate them to what they've already learned. The new framework will require students to use math tools and manipulatives to preserve though problems, as well as explain their thinking. Manipulatives allow children to construct their own mental models for mathematical ideas.
Our fantastic 1st graders have grown a lot this year in understanding concepts where they have had access to manipulatives. This project would allow us to grow our collection of math tools in order to continue our mathematician's progress!
