Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are some of the brightest second and third-graders you will ever meet. They have a true passion for reading, math and science. Their young minds are thirsting for knowledge and it is truly exciting to be a part of their learning process.
Unfortunately, they come from low income homes where their parents struggle to help with homework and projects due to their limited English proficiency.
Our school is a Title I School that tries to provide all that is needed to help our students but due to budget cuts, it becomes very difficult to do so. I usually find myself trying to come up with creative ways to pay for the materials needed for class projects. More than 95% of our school is on free or reduced price lunch. These families struggle financially.
My Project
Incorporating STEM into the classroom will benefit my students knowledge of life, earth, and physical science. State testing in 5th grade tests their knowledge from as far back as kindergarten.
This STEM set will help my students make discoveries and make learning fun.
The sticky notes, crayons, and laptop will help us research and print out information to further our learning. We will create experiments and labs that will help my students see first hand the relationship between objects.
These materials, laptop, and STEM kit will allow my students to take science to a whole new level and become the scientists I know they can be.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
