This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever had the joy of hearing 34 first graders learn to read? I am lucky enough to say I get to hear and see this every single day! My first graders can't get enough of reading. They come in every day running and skipping into class with excitement of what they will be reading. I often hear "Mrs.Grandstaff, I can read now! or "Mrs. Grandstaff, look I see a word I know". Reading books that are on their level make them feel so proud. Instilling a love of reading is something these children will take with them for the rest of their lives. The only problem is that we are in desperate need of more books! Can you please help this excited group of readers with some new books?
My Project
My first grade cuties love to read! Each day we read independently and in small groups. We are in need of books that are on a variety of levels. Over my 22 years of experience I have seen the outcome of having children be matched to books on their level. Each time a child touches a book that they can read they learn something new.
Loving books is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children.
By having books on their level we will be able to do so much in first grade! We will use the books to become better readers because the children will have access to them in our classroom.
