Books help us understand the world we live in, teach us about where we came from, and help us see possible futures.
As a reading teacher, I want to provide lots of great books for my students to read!
I want to introduce my students to quality books that will turn them on to the joy of reading and turn them into lifelong readers.
My district works very hard to enhance student learning, but does not always have the funds I need to stock my classroom library. My students must share access to books with the rest of the school. Our library does not have many partner books where students can read together. Three-fourths of the students in my district receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students come from hard-working homes where the parents do not have money left over to purchase books.
Students love reading with partners. I want to provide my students with quality partner books to read together.
My Project
My students recently attended the book fair and saw many titles that they did not have money to buy but were eager to read. In ELA, my students participate in Book Clubs where they read and discuss their books with a partner. I would like to provide the books that my students are begging to read. What better way to foster a love of books than to provide books that kids are asking to read?
Reading is how we discover new things, expand the mind, and develop imagination.
The ability to read is a vital skill in being able to function in today's society. A person who knows how to read can educate themselves in any area of life they see fit. I want to provide quality books so that I can help my students become lifelong learners and readers. Reading is the pathway to success for my students and partner reading is the road that helps them to get there!
