Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It would be e-mazing to be able to e-quip my e-ager science students with e-ncredible technology. My students would be e-lated to receive e-readers to excite them about topics such as e-clipses, e-coli, and e-chinoderms.
I would be thankful for your e-normous generosity.
This school year I am teaching science to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Gifted & Talented students.
It is exciting and challenging to try to find material to stimulate their creativity. Although they are in this special program, some of my students are ELLs (English Language Learners), some are students with special needs, while most come from high poverty areas. Amazingly enough, these are students who you have to tell them to stop reading and put their books away so I can teach the day's lesson. There never seems to enough reading material in my classroom to satiate their appetite for books. They are voracious readers who share their books with each other, including me on occasion. Having current technology is key in keeping them competitive with their peers across the country. Having e-readers would promote their interest in reading books by utilizing various electronic media.
My Project
I have a classroom library filled with a variety of science related books. Most of my students have finished reading these books and are seeking fresh material. This same scenario plays out in their English, Math, and Social Studies classes. It would be invaluable for these gifted students to have the opportunity to receive books, magazines, and newspapers all delivered everyday to the palm of their hands. Imagine them being able to share information and current events daily as they happen. This is not the same as a computer. This is for the explicit purpose of developing and engaging their reading skills. They will also be able to learn vast amounts of material which I cannot provide in physical book form.
The gift that keeps on giving.
A donation of these e-readers would benefit my gifted students I have now and the future generations I will have in the coming years. Having this technology will enhance their abilities to help themselves. The e-readers will open a new avenue in which these students can increase their knowledge while also advancing their reading skills.
