My Students

My students range in age from four to twelve and attend an urban PK-8 elementary school. Students in our school visit the library once a week and they love to check out books. My students love learning new things and sharing what they have learned with others. This is why they need computers! My students need technology to boost their access to information from on-line sources and e-books. This information can also come in other languages beyond English.

Our students come from more than 50 different countries and speak just as many languages.

Many of those students have come to the US in the last couple of years from places such as Syria, Nigeria, and Nepal. My students come from a variety of backgrounds with many different levels of exposure to computers. My school is one of the most diverse schools in our city.

My Project

My students are curious and thoughtful learners. I can't wait to show them the wealth of information that they can access using Chromebooks and iPads. We will be able to use on-line databases and the encyclopedia which are provided by my district, but we need the devices. Students will also be able to use our library catalog to find out what books are in their school library.

Students are going to be most excited about exploring e-books.

We have many e-books in various languages in our school and district collections, but my students need to be explicitly shown how to use these technologies so they can replicate the experience at home. More and more students have access to some type of technology at home that could be used to get to these sites. The students are going to love these devices as it is going to bring more books and information to them and their families.

As I am a veteran teacher, I have many other technologies that I would like to share with my students. These tools such as Dash/Dot Robots, Makey Makeys, and Osmos need iPads and Chromebooks to run. There are so many cool projects we will do with the new iPads and Chromebooks, such as creating their own book reviews in their native language. We are so excited to bring our library to the 21st Century with technology.
