My Project
While teenagers can be reluctant readers, I have found that dystopian literature hooks many of them. This makes sense as they are newly discovering their identities and their place in society, and dystopian literature offers many relevant themes to explore, especially for young people who are hyper-focused on the future.
Help us to bring a class set of the Handmaid's Tale, so that we can explore ideas of totalitarianism, gender roles, identity, and the importance of critical thinking and being active participants in our government.
Students discussing complex ideas about novels they are all reading together is a beautiful thing. It is amazing to watch passionate conversations about ideas that are newly being explored, and to hope that a lifelong love of literature is being inspired. Any support for this cause is greatly appreciated!
