Dystopian Fun

My Students

The students at our school are a very diverse group. Our school has over 11 languages spoken and we have a lot of students from different cultures. We also have many students from differing economic levels so it is imperative that I am able to supply them with the items they need to get the best education possible.

My students are hardworking and outgoing and always looking for new challenges.

I would like to be able to give them materials that will help them push themselves while having fun in the classroom.

My Project

My students will be starting our Dystopian Fiction unit in English class. My hope is to have four different choices for my students to pick from. Right now all of the novels available to my students are old and outdated and the students are uninterested in these novels. My hope is that in getting newer novels my students will be more involved in the stories and more likely to participate in the classroom.

I plan to split my students into four groups to read these novels so they can learn as a group, discuss as a group, and eventually present to the class as a group about their novel.

I have found that when students are able to work in groups they are able to learn from one another and feel more comfortable sharing their opinions than they sometimes do in front of the whole class.

I am hoping that by getting different novels I will be able to accommodated all of my students as they are all at different levels. My hope is that all students are able to find a book that they are not only able to read and understand but also something that interests the and helps them form opinions about.

I am very excited about this new opportunity for my students to read together in groups and to read some new novels that they have not been introduced to yet. Thank you so much for all of your help in getting my students prepared for this unit.
