Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our fourth and fifth grade students will be learning different types of poetry such as, limericks, acrostic, shape poems and haikus. They will also be learning about different poets, such as, Amanda Gorman, Edgar Allen Poe, and Carl Sandburg.
We will start with Poetry Stations in the Media Center.
Students will take turns reading the poetry of different poets. They will rate the poem on how much they like it by giving it 1-4 stars. In the end, they will pick their 2 favorite poems and research the poets that wrote those poems.
To culminate this dynamic project, we will be holding a poet's tea. The students will present their original work and share a biography of their poet. We would like to also have some refreshments and invite our principal, parents of the students and other students from our school. Please help us celebrate April as National Poetry Month and the growth of our students.
