Dynamic Mathematicians!

My students need several math-based childrens' books, clipboards, lapboard erasers, and spiral notebooks to help them create a dynamic math class!

My Students

Educational inequity, foreign-language barriers, and the challenges of poverty have left my students below grade level in math. But with help, our classroom will change into a dynamic learning environment where the instruction will be tailored to my students' needs to get them back on grade level.

My 45 math students attend one of the largest elementary schools in all of Oklahoma, in a school with a 95 percent free and reduced lunch rate.

Though many of my students are battling to overcome many of the challenges of poverty, they are eager to learn and work. Despite being below grade level, even several years below grade level for some, they show their grit everyday in asking for help and striving to overcome the educational inequities that left them behind in the first place. With continued help and encouragement, they will rise to the challenge and meet grade level requirements.

My Project

These picture books have been specifically chosen for their content to supplement our math units and to bring to life subjects like fractions and coordinate graphs. They will add an extra kick of fun to our math units and will really appeal to the visual and linguistic learners in my classroom. The lapboard erasers will be a needed replacement for the ones I currently have in my classroom. With a lapboard, marker, and eraser, all of my students can show me their work all at the same time. Those that show correct work will move to independent work so they can keep challenging themselves. After having shown mastery with the lapboards and erasers, my students will be able to go mobile with their clipboards, and move to another part of the room to work on their independent work. Once home, students sometimes need a reminder on the day's lesson to finish their homework. These notebooks will be a place for notes so students can review and parents can see the day's lesson and help out.

With so many of my students below grade level, a dynamic and engaging classroom is crucial to help bridge the achievement gap and get these students back on track.
