Every year I am blown away by the resilience, humor and creativity of my students. And this year is no different. I teach such a phenomenal group of young people who are always striving for their best, working to make themselves and their families proud, and learning how to be the best young people they can be.
This project will help my students sustain the hard work they have been doing all year by giving them engaging titles they can use to tackle our last big reading unit this school year.
Teaching reading is difficult, and it's even more difficult when the class needs are as varied as they are this year. These books are written at accessible levels, and also align beautifully with our goals for the dystopian book club unit. These books will help our readers build their analysis, comprehension, speaking and listening skills. And because dystopian novels often draw from the world around them, these books will help students build real-world connections between their own lives and the lives of the characters. By donating to this project, you are ensuring that each student will get their own copy of their book so that they can take it home with them, do any reading homework they have assigned, and stay on top of their goals for this unit.
