My Students
I am a Dyslexia Interventionist who works with small groups of students in an elementary school. We work on building reading skills, spelling skills, and cursive handwriting. With the proper supplies and right intervention, students can move up several reading levels.
Students who have been diagnosed with a learning disability called dyslexia and need to work on building their reading, spelling, and writing skills.
The school I work at has about 700 students and is Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. I work with all grade levels, but only in small group settings, which produces the best results. It is truly a blessing to be able to help these students that have dyslexia.
My Project
Students with dyslexia have difficulties reading, writing, and spelling. Due to the difficulty for students with dyslexia to learn reading and writing skills, it is vital to make learning a multi-sensory activity. With the materials, students will ignite their learning and help the students make a connection in ways that they usually would find difficult as a student with dyslexia. The students would be able to use the materials in a multi-sensory way. Students use touching, vision, and smelling in their lessons. By doing so, it allows them to make the connection to their long-term processing skills and van help them learn to read and write in a more meaningful way.
A multisensory approach to teaching reading, that combines Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic (or muscle) instruction.
