My Students
Happy and excited children will be entering my room this year ready to begin their 5th grade journey. They are motivated after having a full summer off. Students are thrilled and nervous to meet their teacher and their curiosity is high.
My students come from high poverty, and English is a second language to them.
They have personal struggles that they leave behind when they enter my room. I create a safe place for them to succeed at their personal best.
My Project
The students will get a magazine of their own to read and calculate the math problems. It has literature to help them with real-world problems. It exposes the students to see math in more than just a math book or a worksheet.
Students will see math is all around the world and can be an important skill that is used in everyday life.
They will read about other students learning and they will solve problems together. These magazines can be kept and used to go along as a supplement to our everyday math curriculum. Students can take notes, discuss and infer about different real-life situations that combine both math and literacy.
