Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is designated as an institute for finance and entrepreneurship. To succeed in both of these areas we need to cultivate a child's imagination. Students at our school are ready develop and use their imaginations and to absorb, create, and perform the arts through music, movement, and storytelling. To assist in realizing this, the students are in need of several unpitched percussion instruments. These instruments will help our storytelling come to life! Thank you for helping our students realize their potential.

My Project

Imagine Van Gough's Starry Night or Kandinsky's Watercolour No. 6. Both are exceptional works with vibrant colors and striking images. Now imagine the story a child could tell using those images as an impetus. What would the story be and what would it sound like? Using several unpitched percussion instruments, our students can develop their imaginations through musical exploration and tell their story inspired by these paintings and others. This type of imaginative work helps students become stronger readers and well as competent musicians. My students will use these instruments in the general music classroom and in live performance for years to come.
