In many cases, students in my class have not experienced life outside our small, but growing city. As a Social Studies teacher, I would love to take each student to the far away places that we discuss throughout the year. Unfortunately, this is not possible. However, I could bring the world to the students if I had a DVD/VCR combo. Currently, I have purchased a television for my class, but do not have the extra money to purchase the DVD/VCR combo that is needed to show educational movies on the various countries that we study throughout the year. During the year we primarily focus on Canada and Latin America. My first responsibility is to teach the students the seven continents and oceans of the world. Next, my students learn the names of each Latin American country, which includes Central America, the Caribbean islands, and all of South America. By showing an educational video to these students, I believe they will have a deeper understanding of the various countries that we discuss in class. For example, I already own a video entitled Caribbean Islands, which shows the beautiful blue Caribbean Sea, as well as wonderful land formations. For many students, it is hard to imagine so many sites and so much splendor in one place. Owning a DVD/VCR Combo is a much needed asset in my Social Studies Class! Any donations for this purchase will be greatly appreciated by both the students and myself! Thank you for your interest in this project!
