DVD to Enhance Understanding of Classic Literature for Struggling Readers
Help me give my students the opportunity to supplement their knowledge of classic literature with movie versions that will enhance the understanding of ESL learners and struggling readers.
I teach 7th and 8th grade co-taught ELA class at a middle school in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. Nearly 40% of our students are considered low-income with a large population of English Language Learners. Many of these students are lacking basic school supplies as well as supplemental technology to assist in their learning.
Many of the students in my co-taught classes are limited English proficiency, low-income, and special education.
They are often lacking school supplies. Despite these obstacles, they are eager to learn and resilient. Your donation would greatly benefit these students and help to make their school year a lot easier.
My Project
We will use these materials to reinforce each scene as we read the literature with our 7th and 8th grade struggling, ESL learners. As a way to reinforce the events we read and discuss, these movies allow our students to visualize the events and characters as they play out.
Our struggling readers and ESL learners will benefit by using these videos to reinforce the literature and to allow them to visualize it as we read.
Our students need a second way to understand the text, and providing them a visual representation is an excellent way to build comprehension. My students would greatly benefit from these videos as a way to self-check their own comprehension of difficult text.
