it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At our Title I school, students rely on the resourcefulness of the school community to seek out tools to help create the most engaging and impactful learning experiences. I have seen firsthand that when my students have the resources they need, to support passionate teaching, they thrive.
My students are curious, brilliant, and compassionate 7th graders who are eager to learn and work together to solve some of the most pressing issues facing our community, from climate change to health inequity.
They are ethnically, culturally, and literally diverse, and are all ready to learn as way to empower our community!
My Project
My classroom is in need of some durable supplies to minimize the continual waste of materials. For example, our current classroom mailbox is made of cardboard and has fallen apart after a water spill. I have replaced this box 3 times over the course of the past 9 years, and chosen this version for its low cost. Instead of printing 90 colored maps, we are hoping to print 1 class set to be used repeatedly by placing them in poly sleeves or laminating.
Much of what my students are learning in science is how to propose, design, and advocate for more a more sustainable school, city, and planet.
We're hoping to make the classroom space an opportunity to apply that learning.
