This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the head coach of the Varsity Football team. We have a Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman team. Last season, our Varsity Mustangs went 6 and 4 in the Liberty Red League, Division 1 North 5. We would like to have a better 2017 season.
Our team is as diverse as our school population, with many members who are immigrants or first generation citizens; our students speak a variety of languages at home and many are of Hispanic or Middle Eastern descent.
The team meets every day during the fall season and does conditioning and strength training in the winter, spring, and summer months. Many of my varsity squad are two or three season athletes. My students must maintain a high GPA and stay in good standing with attendance and discipline.
My Project
The Varsity Football team needs duffel bags for each team member so they can store all of their equipment, pads, and uniforms. Many of our team members are trying to jam their stuff into their school backpacks and don't really want to tell us that they actually need a duffel bag. We don't want to single them out so our goal is to get an entire set for our football team. I know this will take at least 10 projects, this being part 1, but my goal is to have all of these bags for the 2018 football season, when we start practicing. The first sets of bags will be given to my returning seniors this spring and my new captains.
