This project will benefit students in my English and Social Studies courses. My students are a lively bunch who are excited to delve into the intricacies of English Language Arts, literature, and the history of our world.
We are entering uncharted territory as our rural school moves to digital learning due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
My students live in remote Wyoming where recent economic woes have negatively affected their home lives and our school funding. This pandemic is making things more complicated for everyone. Many of my students receive free and reduced lunch and many more fail to complete the paperwork. Despite this fact, they are dedicated to their work and dream of careers in a wide range of fields. My students are some of the most wonderfully imaginative, inquisitive, and motivated learners I have encountered. I am excited to provide them wonderful opportunities for learning from home.
My Project
Have you ever participated in a scavenger hunt? If you have then you know the thrill of finding a clue, figuring out the answer and rushing to find the next one. Scavenger hunts are great for education because they get students thinking and moving! GooseChase is a digital platform that allows teachers to develop scavenger hunts that can tie directly to the educational material but still involve movement. The scavenger hunts can be completed anywhere and can be done individually or in teams using photos and videos.
Digital scavenger hunts are a great way to keep students engaged and active during this time when everyone is out of school, at home and struggling with the online learning curve.
These scavenger hunts will provide students with the ability to show mastery of the subject matter in a new, fresh manner. Students can do their scavenger hunts from their homes, safely interact with one another and do school work without feeling like they are! GooseChase makes worksheets look like ducks!
