Duck, Duck, Read!

Help me give my students reading rubber ducks to promote reading and help them remember library day!

My Project

My students love visiting the library to check out books. However, it can be a challenge to get them to return their book on time. I would like to give each student in K-2 a reading duck. The ducks will go home with a "library day" bookmark attached. They will be encouraged to name their duck and read to it each day. Students will be able to use the bookmark not only to save their place in the book, but as a reminder of when to return their book.

Research has shown "reading for pleasure is an important skill that is associated with many long-term benefits including increased IQ and improved psychological well-being." (Sun Y-J et al,2024)

My goal is to help my students experience the benefits of pleasure reading at home, as well as assist them with being responsible readers.
