My typical student is a student who struggles with connecting to school. The student knows that graduation is important and is doing everything possible to make sense of the requirements and become successful within the community.
Many of my students have had teachers give up on them in the past; they have experienced failure and they are ready to give up on themselves.
I understand that my students are more than a test score. They are more than a letter grade. They are more than the 45 minutes I see them each day.
My goal is to let my students know they are safe in my classroom and I will do everything I can to assist in their successes.
My Project
Students will be more involved in learning English Language Arts with dry erase boards and markers. Activities that these boards will be used for are hands on -- struggling learners are able to physically construct sentence diagrams, locate parts of speech, and write down thematic elements while reading.
The students who will be using these boards are struggling adapting to high school.
These students are in the 9th grade and the high school transition was not easy for them. Dry erase boards are a way to make learning more engaging, fun, and meaningful for students who are already struggling.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
