Essay: Thank you for reading this proposal or request. I teach in an older building using old, worn out green chalk boards. They are difficult to clean, produce large quantities of harmful dust, and are not easy to read. I would like to replace the chalkboards with magnetic whiteboards. The magnetic whiteboards are easy to maintain, look neater, and are easier to read and do not produce large quantities of harmful dust. I teach Second Grade in a Title 1 school. One hundred per cent of our student population receive free breakfasts and free lunches. Our school has tutoring programs and after-school homework assistance classes. The children in my classroom need the white boards so that they can see the instructional material better with less squinting. Additionally, I will be able to use different colored dry-erase markers to accentuate and differentiate my instructional writing. The magnetized surface will allow me to place poster paper on the boards with magnets instead of damaging the surface with pins, tape, or other materials. Many of the classrooms at our building already use magnetized whiteboards. My classroom is one of the few which still use antiquated chalkboards. In addition to the second grade class, I teach the CBET (Community Based English Tutoring) program which helps the parents of the students to learn to read, write and speak English. This enables the parents to get better paying jobs, but more importantly, it empowers them to help their children progress better in school. The old green chalkboards are difficult for many of the older students to read. Magnetic White Boards can be purchased from office supply stores such as Office Depot. Office Depot offers 48" X 96" magnetic white boards with sturdy aluminum frames. These have durable ceramic finishes and will last for many years. I need to replace both of the chalk boards in my classroom, however, I will be grateful for the replacement of even one such board. Please consider this request to help my students to see better the written instructional matter I write for the class by providing one or two magnetic white boards for my classroom. Thank you very much.
