Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are motivated and energetic scholars. We are a small charter school located in the Mar Vista Area. We are a Title I school where over 90% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, which is a nationally recognized measure of poverty. Many of our students travel long distances to come here while others live in the surrounding area. Despite many challenging home lives, we try to do everything in our power to make the school the most exciting place for them!

Our school is a transformative environment where students become scholars.

Our goal as educators at our school is to make sure that students graduate with the skills and tools necessary to compete at the nations top 100 colleges and universities in the country. In order to do this, we attempt to provide our students with a wide range of activities and experiences that we feel that they deserve as kids.

One of the best ways we can think of to help create this transformative environment is to ensure that our school is emotionally, and physically safe. We hope that students feel important and respected the minute they walk onto our campus.

My Project

My school and my scholars thrive off of data. As a school, if the data doesn't support it, its unlikely we will do it. Our students are the same way.

Our students are consistently tracking their data in order to show academic progress.

Students are aware of their learning, and use numbers to set goals and then track their progress. This whiteboard will be dedicated to tracking data in order to create a level of data transparency in the classroom.

If we are able to get this whiteboard for our school and our classroom, we will be able to have students set goals for their end-of-the-year SBAC test, and compare those goals to numbers in the past. This will serve as a constant motivator up to the test.

We have whiteboards in our classroom already, however this whiteboard will be solely used for students to set goals, track progress towards those goals!
