Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in an impoverished area where most ELL students in my class are free and reduced lunch. My greatest challenge this year is teaching them reading but learning English as well. They enjoy using the whiteboards because it is a fun, engaging way for them to learn. They love it!!

My students are a lively, enthusiastic group that loves to learn.

Most of my students live in poverty but have loving families that support them. Some students have difficult situations at home that affect them academically and emotionally. I do my best to provide a "family" classroom atmosphere, caring and love to get them over these terrible hurdles they are facing. They know they are safe when they are with me.

My Project

My students love to use the whiteboards in class! Prior to teaching a lesson, I let them draw pictures to my dog Coco, Captain or Bear. I use the whiteboards in ALL subjects. It is a fun, engaging way to help them learning concepts that could be considered a little "dry."

The donation will make a difference in my classroom because the whiteboards I currently have are falling apart, breaking, chipping and dirty.

My students feel important and excited when they get something new to work with. They also feel pride of taking care of something for my future 2nd graders next year.
