Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students at our school come from an array of different backgrounds and cultures. Students speak different languages and celebrate different traditions. One of the special things about our students is that they are all curious. Our students are curious to find out about their friends and the world.
They strive to be connected with each and through this energy they learn how to work together.
Regardless of academic standing, languages, and other differences, students have consistently shown that they want to work together to build success and learn. Or students are motivated and determined to learn, despite their circumstances. They love to learn and show off what they know.
My Project
The use of whiteboards within a small group setting is an activity that we try to incorporate a few times a week. If we were able to use the customizable whiteboards we are able to roll out the concept of "I do, we do, you do", which is based off of the idea of modeling for the students how to complete the work independently. The teacher is then able to check students understanding of the skill or topic and can immediately provide feedback. We would be able to use this modeling technique in our smalls groups for both math and reading since the boards are interchangeable.
The customizable whiteboards that we are looking at for our students will allow them to keep all their supplies in one place and have an area to show their hard work.
One of the biggest problems that we face with first graders is that the students tend to misplace the markers and erasers. These special whiteboards have compartments for the markers/erasers, which will allow the students to keep their materials in a certain place that they can go back to everyday when using it.
