The students unknowingly watch what we do, and are learning how to improve their writing without even knowing that they are.
The students in our program are reading and writing significantly below grade level for a variety of reasons.
They want to get better, but often don't know where to begin. Our students come from a low income area and don't have access to reading and writing materials that will help them improve. In our program, we try to fill that gap with a wide variety of reading materials in many formats, and a variety of methods that teach writing.
My Project
I am requesting 2 whiteboards and 1 display easel to have a way to see what we are modeling to help them improve their writing skills. We use the whiteboards for small group instruction where the students will have writing modeled for them to see and learn. The small group area is a safe place where they will have an opportunity to practice both previously learned and new writing styles. The students get to learn new information in an interactive manner to improve discussion, learning, and comprehension of writing skills and strategies.
The donation will help us to be able to better reach our students who have difficulty writing due to low writing skills, lack of self-confidence in writing, and difficulty recalling information that has been taught that improves writing skills.
