This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There are around 400 third through fifth grade students in our school and all of them will be in my music class at some point this year. We are starting a new program especially for the 6th grade called “African Drumming.” This class will be held as an afternoon elective course. All of the kids will, however, have the opportunity to use and experience these drums in the regular music classes as well. We use the Orff Schulwerk method of music education which offers students a chance to sing, play, dance, mime, and create in music class.
My Project
The students will be able to each have an instrument to play rather than sharing the few drums we have already. This will be a great way to get those kids interested in music who may otherwise never give it a chance. This could be the spark they need to ignite a fire and a passion for the arts that will stay with them throughout the rest of their lives. Music truly is the universal language of harmony and what better way to learn about that than through a fun and challenging course like African Drumming! Thank you for your help!
