Help me give my students DRUMSTICKS to get their bodies and brains movin' and groovin' with as they learn to perform and create musical rhythms, patterns, and ensembles enjoying MUSIC FROM AROUND THE WORLD!
(in a sing song style) "Hello, hello, hello and how are you? I'm fine, I'm fine and I hope that you are too!" Welcome to music class in Sturgeon Bay. My students love music and music loves them!
Music is one of the only activities that activates, stimulates and uses the entire brain.
All it takes is one activity that a student loves to give him/her that "rock star" confidence that will carry him/her so much farther in life and beyond their schooling years. Many of my students have started to gain that confidence, but many others are still needing to be reached.
With that in mind, I am hoping to help my small town students succeed even more by learning independent musical skills that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Many students are low income and parents do not have the means to support their interest in the arts outside of public school education. I hope to make the best of my students time in the music classroom.
My Project
Look, drums! Let's play! All students love to play the drums. The donation of drumsticks will allow us to learn about communities around the world, listen to their genres of music and recreate specific sounds and rhythm patterns to express traditional music around the world.
With the drumsticks, students will be able to perform music from around the world.
In addition students will work to create a unified rhythmic ensemble with their peers and become actively engaged in their learning environment.
Drumming is good for the mind, brain and soul! Students are engaged, happy and gain a greater understanding and appreciation of their world.
PS: Our school has already received a donation of 5 gal buckets from Home Depot and a local restaurant to use as the drums - we just need the sticks to really get movin' and groovin'!
