This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach music at a Title 1 public school in Harlem, New York. Our program reaches out to economically disadvantaged and homeless students in hopes of helping them realize their full potential.

My smiling, dedicated students come to class excited to learn how to play the music they hear on Spotify.

Their vivid imaginations are on display while working on their Garage Band "mix tapes."

My students can't wait to apply what they've learned in class to instruments like the drum set.

My Project

The drum sets I'm requesting will get daily use in my classroom. They will be located in the front of my classroom and used as teaching points throughout the semester. Students will listen to music they love, learn the beats of the songs through body percussion, then transition these beats onto the drum sets. I will use the drum sets to model musical ideas and beats for my students. The drums will be used as the foundation for student compositions. The beats my students learn on the drum sets will be the platforms on which they will make full, original compositions.

The donations of these instruments will help my students realize the true potential of their musical talent.

These instruments will allow my students to turn creative ideas into real, tangible musical concepts.

My students are excited about music, and these drum sets will keep them engaged in the musical classroom. Thank you for your kindness. It helps bring fulfillment and enrichment to my students.
