My Students

Giving students the experience of learning an instrument helps them to grow not only as an individual, but also as a group. In addition, having different instruments allows us to grow our knowledge of different cultures. Help us to grow together!

We are a low-income school with a great student population that is excited to learn and grow.

We have a high free/reduced lunch rate and asking the students to purchase their own instruments is not a feasible option. There is a high rate of transitory students and our many cultures can cause rifts between them. Our goal is to create an activity that everyone can be a part of and can help to bring different groups together in a common goal. The purchase of these stands will help us to be able to perform better and look more professional when doing concerts at both the school and in the public.

My Project

We are asking for a set of drum mutes that we can use with our World Music drums that we received from another Donors Choose project. We found out that those drums can get pretty loud in our room. The purchase of these drum mutes would be to bring down the volume so that we can all play together (sometimes up to 50 students) and still be able to hear ourselves after we stop. It would also allow us to work with the drums longer and give each student a drum that they can play by themselves, further promoting the idea of being part of the group. Learning an instrument helps to develop coordination, language skills, interpretation skills, and group dynamics. We will give them an experience in self-discipline and group performance that they can use to help their schooling in the future. They will also have the added enjoyment of being able to perform their instrument as an accompaniment to the rest of the class and/or school singing.

Many students can have trouble with loud noises, especially some Special Education students.

We want to make sure that everyone can participate with the drums. Students who take part in music instruments have higher than average abilities in creative thinking, social interactions, and critical thinking skills. They will also be able to take these skills and begin to explore them at home with their own instruments. Please help give these students a good starting point from which to grow.
