My Students

My students are happy to be at school where they are cared about and cared for. Home lives are hard, but these students have great potential and deserve the same chances other students get.

I am the K-5 Music Specialist at a Title I school in Everett, WA, where 73% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

The school has a wonderfully diverse climate where students are encouraged to work hard and be a school of readers. In my classroom, I do all I can to provide real experiences and connect with students in an authentic way. I need help with supplying enough instruments and materials so that everyone can participate fully each time they come to music ready to learn.

My Project

In our General Music Classroom we love to DRUM! I almost have enough tubano drums for each child but a few of those drums are old and cracked and need replaced.

This drum will make it possible for each student to drum together in our class Drum Circles!

We love to drum - it brings us together as a class community, gets good energy going, includes everyone, and is FUN!

In my school many kids speak English as a 2nd language - but when we drum together, the only language needed is rhythm. Even on their very first day in an English speaking school a student can fully participate - you should see their smiles!

Thank you for considering my classroom and our need for a new drum. It will be played and appreciated for years and years to come.
