It is amazing to see the talent and creativity students have who enter the music classroom. They have so much potential to think outside of the box. Even with with the challenges the face, they are able to make something amazing out of nothing. They have fire, they have the drive, and they have the passion to excel, but their growth can become stunted when the resources they need are not available due to lack of consistent funding. I try daily to counteract this as best as possible, but at the end of the day, there is only so much I can do. It is my goal to utilize this service to impact my students to give them a brighter future and to help them grow through music and arts!
My Project
Whether it be playing on drums in music class or tapping on the desk with pencils, our students LOVE to make beats and explore rhythm. This past year the music room tried a new unit in it's curriculum that include bucket drumming to different styles and eras of music. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable and engaging experiences so far! This has been a very positive and inspiring reaction after the struggles of the height of the pandemic this past year! It is our hope to add to the fun by creating a bucket drumming group experience!
By creating a bucket drumming group experience students would have the opportunity to not only improve their musical skills but, their team building and social skills as well by working together to create music!
The materials for this project would allow for students to create and play rhythms on different types of buckets and bins. Each would have a part and students would learn how those parts come together to create one sound. These materials would be able to help improve student engagement even further in a unique way. It is also my hope that students may be inspired to purse a performing group experience in the future such the band in middle school or even marching band in high school!
