Kids love drums! They are naturally drawn to drums of any kind. That is why I want to start a drum ensemble at my school. I am a first year music teacher at a low income Chicago Public School and a drum circle is just want my students need. This is a wonderful way for them to learn the importance of teamwork and self-discipline through music. I would like to start my ensemble in the fall for my 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. It will be called D.R.U.M. which is an acronym for Discipline, Respect, and Unity through Music. The students will gain wonderful experience, work together as a team, learn self-discipline and make music. It will be a place where they can leave the work of the day behind and get lost in their expression and creativity. I will need a variety of drums and percussion intruments to start the ensemble and I am hoping that down the road the program will grow and more drums would be added. Any support would be greatly appreciated. A drum ensemble gives music teachers a powerful tool to build teamwork, discipline, and excitement in their students. Please help and be a part of D.R.U.M. Thank You.
