This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students are hardworking and enthusiastic with a desire to learn. Almost all of our students are from low-income families and come from a neighborhood that is economically deprived. However, they deserve an opportunity at a great education which can open many doors for them in the future. Economic status and geographic location shouldn't be a reason to not have the same opportunities in life as others.
Drones are quickly finding their way into our everyday lives.
From cinematography to sports, agriculture to real estate, industrial applications are constantly expanding as are the number of jobs waiting to be filled. Drones in the hands of students spark curiosity in aviation, engineering, coding, and much more. Our Drone Pilot Training Course is designed to do just that.
Learning to program is a skill that will benefit our scholars for years to come.
The drones in this project are programmable with scratch programming platform. We will pair the drones with tablets that we already have. Students will learn to build, fly, and code using both block coding and line coding. This project will be part of our emerging computer science and engineering program. The hope is that upon turning 16, our scholars will be prepared to take the FAA Drone Pilot Exam and become certified drone pilots.
