Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The benefits of robotics education are impressive; it teaches through discovery allowing students an understanding through cause and effect learning. It gives students a visual grasp of math and science while building logical thinking. Robotics study helps to develop teamwork and problem-solving.
My school is located in the community of South Central Los Angeles.
We are the home of the Lions where we always say, "Never, Never Give Up." I have 31 wonderful students that come to school ready to work and do their best. Our class logo is "Dedication - Hard Work." They come with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few. My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities involve STEM. Many of them are already planning to become engineers, scientists, mathematicians, etc.
My Project
Robotics is also a highly effective way to foster essential work skills like collaboration, problem solving and project management. It does all this while keeping kids so motivated and engaged that getting them to stop working and move on to the rest of the school day can be a challenge. If I bring this drone robot to my robotics time, it will be an amazing experience during school time and after school club. They will learn to program the drones and work in groups. Robotics can work its magic even for fifth grade elementary students. They will use the drones before or after school. I also need one beanbag seat so my students can use it to enjoy reading during silent reading. This beanbag will make it so comfortable and enjoyable for my students to read. I will place this beanbag in my classroom library area.
Robotics is a tool being used by thousands of schools worldwide to motivate and excite students about math and science.
It inspires students to make connections across several disciplines rather than learning topics in isolation. I know I can use these robots to motivate my students to love STEM.
