Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in Camden, N.J. This city has one of the highest crime rates in the country. My students deal with daily; crime, gangs. poverty, no family structure. I go to my students' homes and see their deplorable living conditions. They barely have any furniture, limited lighting, and bug infested rooms. While they deal with all of that many come to school to get a break from their lives and are eager to learn.
One class my students look forward to is Driver Education.
They want to get their drivers license without having to drive illegally, which many do. So many students are bored with school yet are eager to get a class that will be immediately beneficial to them.
Some of my students will wait past their 17th birthday just to take the New Jersey State written test in my class, even though they could go to motor vehicle department and take the test.
My Project
I would like to increase the performance of the driver education simulators. The hard drive is over 20 years old and isn't functioning well. I would like to replace it with a gaming hard drive that will allow the driving simulators to work efficiently to the students can get a truer driving experience.
The laser disks I use for the drives are not in HD so they are not clear.
A new hard drive will enable the students to see traffic lights, signs and pedestrians and cars sooner to react properly.
My students love to use the driving simulators and deserve to get a quality experience. I hope I can make this happen for them.
