My Project

My students are curious and energetic learners. They love school and light up with joy whenever they are presented with a new activity to explore. All of my students participate in counseling as part of their individualized education plan. They eagerly participate in their counseling sessions and have been responding especially well to play therapy techniques.

I'm requesting new toy cars that will be appropriate for all of the ages that I work with: pull-back cars with lights and sirens for the little kids and hot wheels track sets and games for my older students.

Play therapy gives kids a chance to communicate and express themselves in a way that is comfortable and natural for them - through play. A lot of parallels for impulse control can also be drawn from play with cars. Sometimes the cars are going too fast and need to slow down. There might be a red light and students need to practice waiting. Maybe there is a traffic jam and problem solving is required. There are so many social and emotion regulation strategies that my students will be able to gain experience with through play with cars. As an added bonus, my students love cars and I know that these new cars and activities will spark their interest and motivation to learn.
